History:
On February 6, 1954 the Mercedes 190 SL and Mercedes 300 SL were presented to the public at the International Motor Sport Show in New York. Between May 1955 until February 1963 altogether 25.881 vehicles of this type were built.
It was evident that the Mercedes 190 SL was meant to be a small brother of the already famous Mercedes 300 SL, because great emphasis had been placed on a similar shape.
That Mercedes 190 SL was however substantially more slender than the powerful, bigger brother despite the same style elements. From the outset you could get the Mercedes 190 SL only in a Cabriolet version with verdeck and a Coupé version with light alloy Hardtop. But you could convert easily also the Mercedes 190 SL Cabriolet with Hardtop to a Coupé.
Easy to see, the round instruments trimmed with chrome rings, the original clock and a contemporary Becker radio complete the very beautiful general impression of this Mercedes Benz 190SL.
From 1991 we have the information from the Federal Automobile Office that there are only 1.243 certified Mercedes 190 SL of copies in Germany. This sporty two-seater is very popular today. No matter from which angle you look at the 190 SL, you will discover new perspectives again and again and you will admire its beauty.
Framework: Steel sheet construction, self-supporting with the ground-based system welded Transmission and power transmission: mechanically, 4 course Rear-wheel drive over cardan shaft Many details were included in a harmonious interplay of design and technology to create a work of extraordinary beauty, trimmed in chrome.
Brakes: hydraulic drum brakes with brake booster The view into the engine compartment is a true eye catcher. Considerable technology for its time, overhead camshaft and two double carburetors. The Mercedes 190 SL has gained clearly in the last years in reputation and popularity. It is to be expected that the prices for such vehicles will continue to rise, so that the investment is not only pleasant, but it is even economically sound.
Chassis: Suspension: Independent suspension at double wishbones with coil springs and stabilizers in front A joint pendulum axis with thrust props and Coil springs in the back, telescope oil pressure shock absorber. It is a lot ot fun to participate in historical meetings and on top of it to drive an old timer that is optically beautiful, technically reliable and still financially affordable.
